Homeschooler Growing Up | What I Am Up To Next.

Time is a funny thing. Its fictional existence is so important in our reality. We thrive for more of it, yet misuse it and can never get back what is lost. I have become carried away with my time recently. Focusing on other things had made me forget upcoming events and important choices. Last year, I mainly focused on the four subjects I studied for GCSE. Which wasn't all bad, but left me in a difficult situation. When it came to my summer break I realised that I needed to think about where I was heading.
For my international readers; the next obvious step after year 11 exams in the British school system is sixth form or college, where you can study A levels, B-tec or similar. The prospect of going to college was very tempting. I mostly wanted to experience the unfamiliar fantasy of school. Although, I also felt drawn to the hoards of people my age, leaping at the chance to pass through those college gates. However, I realised that I wouldn't be able to study the subjects I really aspire to do...
At college I hope to mainly focus on art subjects, hopefully doing A levels in Fine Art and Graphic Design, among other things. At home these creative subjects are almost impossible to do as a qualification, because of how they are examined. You are normally accepted into a subject at college because you have done the GCSE qualification in it. This means I need to provide another form of evidence. This evidence normally comes in the shape of a portfolio. It made sense to me to concentrate on making these portfolios before going to college so I can definitely do the courses I am passionate about. Although college seems so exciting, fun and independent, I just didn't feel ready for it. Therefore, I've decided to stay homeschooled for one extra year. Aside from my artistic subjects I will also study Mathematics and History at AS level standard, as I am currently considering taking these A levels as well. It was a hard decision to make and a courageous one, but I know it was the right choice. I often remind myself that life isn't about following everyone else's path, it's about leading your own and changing direction every now and then. I homeschool to do things differently, such as this occasion, where I know I wasn't quite ready for the next step.
Many people are curious as to what I am currently doing and many assume that I am already in sixth form, which is one of the main reasons I made this post.
I am so uncertain about my future and how it'll end up; I think this 'year out' will be the best way to figure things out. Maybe by next term, I'll want to be a zookeeper or an astronaut. I firmly know things are in God's hands and cannot wait to see where he leads me in my next adventure.

Where are you all at in education and are you enjoying it? Let me know down below.

Hope you enjoyed this post, if you did don't forget to follow and check out my social media (listed on the bottom and right).

  2. As long as you're living a life that you're happy with, that's all that matters! I also didn't know you were religious, I'd love to read a post about that, if you wouldn't mind putting one up? xox
